Many people dream of a kitchen remodel, but it is generally the most expensive area of the home to upgrade. Painting your kitchen cabinets is a great way to transform your home without breaking the bank. Follow these tips and you will be on your way to enjoying your new space!
Prepping the room is an important first step in ensuring a successful project. Begin by emptying cabinets, clearing off countertops, and removing furniture. Protect your counters, floors, and backsplash by taping plastic sheeting over them.
Next, you will need to carefully remove the doors and drawers with a screwdriver. Be sure to take off any metal hardware from the wood surfaces. Then, you will need to sand the drawers, frame, and cabinets to create a smooth surface for painting. Once this step is done, wipe down the sanded areas with a damp cloth to remove excess dust.
Now it’s time to start painting! First, you will want to prime and allow the primer to dry fully before moving on. Once this is done, you should apply your paint in the direction of the wood grain, and again allow this to dry completely.
Once you have a desirable finish on your cabinets and everything is completely dry, you can reattach the hardware, then attach the doors and drawers back on the frame. Finally, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your new kitchen!
